Overjoyed

Over hearts, I have painfully turned every stone
Just to find, I had found what I've searched to discover
I've come much too far for me now to find
The love that I've sought can never be mine.

Who is she?

Mi Morena* **

And so my love
From my window I can see
A beautiful vision
And when the music plays
Your body rises like a bird of grace

Mi morena
I saw you dancing in the rain
Holy water
Shining like a silver flame
Come like a ghost
I will watch you dance alone
Mi morena
You're the light within my soul

And so my love
The way you're moving in your dress
To a nylon guitar
On wings of silk and lace
You lift upon the notes and slip away

Mi morena
I saw you dancing in the rain
Holy water
Shining like a silver flame
Come like a ghost
I will watch you dance alone
Mi morena
You're the light within my soul

Take this cross of feathers and bone
Take this heart I've carved in stone
In your name

Where the setting sun surrenders to the moon
Mi querida
I wait for you

Mi morena
Hold your hands out to the night
Be my lover
I will fall into your eyes
Sweet fire of love
For you I'd steal the stars
`Cause I adore you
O my morena

Who was the mysterious sitter who inspired daVinci in the most famous painting in the world, Mona Lisa or La Gioconda?

It is no secret that I love lyrics almost as much as poetry. Most times, it is the beauty of the words or the depth of the meaning behind them that captivates me. But almost as frequently, I am fascinated with the muse. This is one of those songs. Every time that I hear it, I wonder: What was she like? Who was she to him? Does she know that she inspired these words? What kind of woman inspires such incredible exposition of love? How did their love story end?

A Beautiful Day

More awesome lyrics by India Arie and Robin Roberts. I love India's new CD! Beautiful woman and this song is fantastic. I'm a happy person and this song echoes my feelings. Not to say that I'm always so happy when my alarm goes off, but typically by the time I get out of the shower I'm singing. :) My morning high is even better if I've done pilates or yoga (which I did today). And if anyone tries to steal my sunshine, they get checked! ;)

Life is a journey, not a destination,
There are no mistakes, just chances we’ve taken
Lay down your regrets cause all we have is now
Wake up in the morning and get out of bed
Start making a mental list in my head
Of all of the things that I am grateful for

Early in the morning
It’s the dawn of a new day
New hopes new dreams new ways
I open up my eyes and
I open up my mind and
I wonder how life will surprise me today
Early in the morning
It’s the dawn of a new day
New hopes new dreams new ways
I open up my heart and
I’m gonna do my part and
Make this a positively beautiful day

La la la la la la la la la (x3)
It’s a Beautiful Day (x3)

Life is a challenge, not a competition
You can still smell the roses and be on a mission
Just take a moment to get in touch with your heart
Sometimes you feel like you’ve got something to prove
Remind yourself that there’s only one you
Just take a moment to give thanks for who you are

Early in the morning
It’s the dawn of a new day
New hopes, new dreams, new ways
I open up my eyes and
I open up my mind and
I wonder how life will surprise me today
Early in the morning
It’s the dawn of a new day
New hopes, new dreams, new ways
I open up my heart and
I’m gonna do my part and
Make this a positively beautiful day

Where were you born?

The First Day of My Life
by Bright Eyes

This is the first day of my life
I swear I was born right in the doorway
I went out in the rain suddenly everything changed
They're spreading blankets on the beach

Yours is the first face that I saw
I think I was blind before I met you
Now I don’t know where I am
I don’t know where I’ve been
But I know where I want to go

And so I thought I’d let you know
That these things take forever
I especially am slow
But I realize that I need you
And I wondered if I could come home

Remember the time you drove all night
Just to meet me in the morning
And I thought it was strange you said everything changed
You felt as if you'd just woke up
And you said “this is the first day of my life
I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you
But now I don’t care I could go anywhere with you
And I’d probably be happy”

So if you want to be with me
With these things there’s no telling
We just have to wait and see
But I’d rather be working for a paycheck
Than waiting to win the lottery
Besides maybe this time is different
I mean I really think you like me

***

I have been reborn in so many places. I recall Benton Hall, Shriver Center, a train station, a couch, another couch, and most recently a porch swing. What about you?

Grey Street

by Dave Matthews

Oh look at how she listens
She says nothing of what she thinks
She just goes stumbling through her memories
staring out onto Grey Street
She thinks, "Hey, how did I come to this?
I dream myself a thousand times around the world
but I can't get out of this place."

There's an emptiness inside her
and she'd do anything to fill it in
but all the
colors mix together-- to grey
and it breaks her heart

You know she wishes it was different
She prays to God most every night
and though she swears it doesn't listen
there's still a hope in her it might.
She says, "I pray but my prayers they fall on deaf ears,
am I supposed to take it on myself
to get out of this place?"

There's a loneliness inside her
and she'd do anything to fill it in
and though it's red blood bleeding from her now
it feels like cold blue ice in her heart
when all the colors mix together--to grey
and it breaks her heart

There's a stranger speaks outside her door
says "take what you can from your dreams
make them as real as anything
it'll take the work out of courage"

But she says, "Please
there's a crazy man that's creeping outside my door
I live on the corner of Grey Street
and the end of the world"

There's an emptiness inside her
and she'd do anything to fill it in
and though it's red blood bleeding from her now
it's more like cold blue ice in her heart
she feels like kicking out all the windows
and setting fire to this life
she could change everything about her
using colors bold and bright
but all the colors mix together--to grey
and it breaks her heart
it breaks her heart
to grey

Chayanne!

My first favorite Latin artist! I had such a huge crush when I was 13.

Atado a Tu Amor
(Tied to Your Love)

No llames la atención
(Don't call attention to yourself)
ni sigas provocandome
(and don't keep provoking me)
Que ya voy comprendiendo cada movimiento
(I'm starting to understand every movement)
Me gusta lo que haces
(I like what you do)
para conquistarme
(to conquer me)
para seducirme
(to seduce me)
para enamorarme
(to make me fall in love)
Y vas causando efecto
(and it's working)
....

Mira lo que has hecho que he caido preso
(Look what you've done that I've fallen prisoner)
de tu cuerpo y de tu mente
(to your body and to your mind)
Y en un agujero de tu corazón
(and in a pinhole in your heart)
y tú no estás presente
(and you're not present)
Y la libertad te juro no la quiero
(And I swear I don't want freedom)
si estoy contigo
(If I'm with you)
dejame atado a este amor
(leave me tied to this love)
atado a este amor
(tied to this love)

Blackbird

by the Beatles

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
all your life
you were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
